JHK Equine Team:

Jackie Harvey-Knight

Jackie Harvey-Knight

Jackie has been eventing for many years. Following much success in youth classes, she obtained her BVMS in Veterinary Medicine in 2009. After having her two children Sam and Elle, Jackie returned to eventing and is currently competing internationally; still with huge ambition to ride at the top of the sport.
With a long standing interest in genetics and equine reproduction, a future involved with breeding was almost inevitable.
Hisco, Jackie’s main event horse (by Warrant, out of Ferro mare), is the inspiration behind JHK Equine and prompted the desire to breed competition horses with the WOW factor.

Bert

Bert

Bert, who is Jackie’s father, is the linchpin behind all of her equine endeavours.
Initially chief horsebox driver and in charge of studs for Jill many years ago, he has been Jackie’s primary supporter and sponsor for many years.
Now retired, with a very successful previous career in business and a passion for horses equal to Jackie, Bert continues to have an active role in all aspects.
A sucker for a chestnut, Jackie’s dad has recently become involved in the breeding plans for the future and we are excited and privileged to see where this will lead.

Steph

Steph

Jackie’s sister has always been a pivotal member of the team.
The horses all love her and she is involved in all aspects of the breeding and competing side of things.
An agricultural manager, Steph is a busy lady travelling all over the south west to see her farming clients. She has very little spare time and if not helping Jackie, she can be found walking her Bassett Hound Toby or giving her horse Buddy some TLC!

Jill

Jill

Jackie’s mother has a lot to answer for!
An avid event rider in her time, Jill successfully competed to intermediate and CCI-L 2*. After a nasty rotational fall, she then went on to train horses up to CCI-L 5* and had two horses listed in the top 100 event horses in the world – one at number 7 in the nineties!
Jill tries to keep Jackie on the straight and narrow and is her most fierce critic! She is always around to lend a hand at the drop of a hat and offer her invaluable experience.
When not down the yard, Jill works in fashion, and if not in a smart frock will be chasing around after her Great Dane Kooper.

Jen

Jen

Jen has been part of the team since 2021. She has a degree in Equine Science from Bristol University, and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the yard.
With a particular interest in studwork, she is vital in assessing the mares and working with the youngstock.
At home Jen manages a small holding with her husband and is a devoted mum to her boys.

Jess

Jess

Jess has been with us for a few years now. She went straight into the equine industry from school and completed an advanced level apprenticeship and coaching qualification.
Having been head girl for a highly successful, top level professional event rider, Jess is very knowledgeable and a huge asset to the yard.
When not working her 9-5 job, she can be found with her lovely thoroughbred Tim or her springer spaniel Benji – and she also does much of the printing for the JHK Equine clothing.

James

James

James Bosley is Jackie’s veterinary surgeon (when she’s not doing the stud work herself!).
James graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2001 and worked in Devon doing large animal and equine work. He then went on to work in New Zealand for four years the start of him specialising in horses. He came back to his roots here in Devon starting up with well renowned local vet Ray Dilliway. James has built up a good following and is passionate about providing an affordable and realistic approach for his clients.
With vast experience behind him and a passion for racing and stud work, James is the perfect professional to have on board – especially as he has also evented up to CCI** level in three day events here and abroad.

Mike

Mike

Mike Smith is Jackie’s farrier.
He completed an apprenticeship in farriery from November 1994 to March 1999 with Nigel Howes AWCF, in and around the surrounding area of Bath.
After gaining the diploma in farriery he came home to Somerset and set up on his own, shoeing all types of horses in Devon and Somerset.
Mike is super with the foals and also highly experienced in the more technical aspects of shoeing. Living just around the corner from the yard, he is a regular face here and is an invaluable part of the team.

Aga

Aga

Aga Karmol is Jackie’s logo and website designer.
She is also her chief photographer and a very dear friend.
Having a Masters’ Degree in Fine Art, 30 years of experience in graphic design and several years of practice in equestrian photography, Aga is very well suited to producing JHK Equine visual materials and documenting the foals’ lives. Privately a keen horsewoman, she can be often seen locally riding her warmblood Freddie.
